Trauma-Informed Support in the East Midlands: Julie Takes on Tough Mudder for How We Heal CIC

Last autumn, I founded How We Heal – Trauma Recovery & Wellbeing CIC with a simple but deeply held vision: to create safe, trauma-informed spaces where women can reconnect with themselves and discover that healing is possible.
Through body-led approaches including trauma-informed yoga, somatic practices, nervous system education and compassionate community, we support women living with the impact of trauma, domestic abuse, anxiety and chronic stress. Our work is grounded in the understanding that trauma is not only held in our memories - it is also carried in the body and nervous system. Healing, therefore, involves gently working with both. As a small Community Interest Company, we rely on grants, partnerships and the generosity of our community to make this work accessible to the women who need it most.
This weekend, we're celebrating an incredible act of courage, determination, and generosity.
Our supporting Director, fellow yoga teacher, and dear friend, Julie Gundry, is taking on Tough Mudder to raise funds for How We Heal – Trauma Recovery & Wellbeing CIC.
For many people, completing Tough Mudder would be a significant physical challenge. For Julie, it carries even greater meaning.
Just 18 months ago, Julie fractured her pelvis in a serious accident. Her recovery has required patience, resilience, and determination. To now be standing on the start line of one of the UK's most demanding obstacle courses is a remarkable testament to her strength of spirit. Those who know Julie will not be surprised! She has always met life's challenges with quiet courage and an unwavering commitment to helping others. We are incredibly grateful that she and her team have chosen to support How We Heal through this challenge.
Why trauma-informed support in the East Midlands matters
Every pound raised will help fund the delivery of Solace for Survivors - our trauma-informed programme supporting women recovering from domestic abuse. At How We Heal, we recognise that trauma is not simply held in our thoughts and memories. It also lives in the body and nervous system. Through trauma-informed yoga, somatic practices, nervous system education, mindfulness, and compassionate community, Solace for Survivors offers women a safe space to reconnect with themselves, rebuild trust in their bodies, and move towards healing at their own pace.
As a not-for-profit Community Interest Company, fundraising is essential in allowing us to make these programmes accessible to the women who need them most. Every donation, regardless of its size, helps remove barriers to support and enables more women to access body-led trauma recovery.
