How We Heal CIC Awarded National Lottery Funding to Support Trauma Recovery from Domestic Abuse

The National Lottery Community Fund awards grant funding for trauma recovery for survivors of domestic abuse

We are celebrating here and deeply grateful to share that How We Heal: Trauma Recovery & Wellbeing CIC has been awarded £17,470 in grant funding from The National Lottery Community Fund. This funding marks an important milestone for our organisation and for the women and communities we exist to serve. It is not just a financial investment in Solace, our survivors domestic abuse trauma recovery project - it is a vote of belief in the validity and level of support offered by trauma-informed, community-led, body-based healing.

What This Funding Means

Thanks to National Lottery players, this grant will enable us to deliver safe, inclusive, and trauma-informed yoga, somatic and wellbeing support for women affected by abuse across Nottingham, Leicester and Derby.

The funding will allow us to:

• Deliver our body-focused, trauma-informed healing programme

• Create safe and accessible spaces for women to reconnect with their bodies

• Support embodiment, agency, resilience, and nervous system regulation

• Ensure our work is ethical, sustainable, and fairly resourced

• Learn, reflect, and grow as an organisation rooted in lived experience and care

At How We Heal CIC, we believe that recovery is not something people should have to navigate alone. Healing happens in relationship, in safety, and in community - and this funding helps make that possible.

National Lottery funding and the National Lottery Community Fund plays a vital role in supporting grassroots organisations doing preventative, relational, and community-based work. Trauma recovery is long-term, non-linear, and deeply human - yet it is often underfunded.

By investing in intervention and wellbeing, The National Lottery Community Fund helps reduce isolation, restore dignity, and strengthen communities from the inside out.
