Conflict of Interest Policy
How We Heal: Trauma & Wellbeing CIC
How We Heal: Trauma Recovery & Wellbeing CIC is committed to transparency and accountability. This Conflict of Interest Policy outlines how the organisation ensures fair, ethical decision-making.
1. Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to ensure that decisions made by the directors and anyone acting on behalf of How We Heal CIC are fair, transparent and in the best interests of the organisation and its community.Conflicts of interest can arise when personal, financial or other interests could influence—or be seen to influence—a person’s ability to make impartial decisions on behalf of the CIC.
2. Scope
This policy applies to all directors, staff, contractors, volunteers and anyone involved in decision-making or representing the CIC.
3. Identifying conflicts of interest
A conflict of interest may occur when someone:
-
Stands to gain personally or financially from a CIC decision (for example, being paid for services or hiring a family member);
-
Has a close relationship with a supplier, partner or participant; or
-
Holds another role or commitment that could affect their judgement.
4. Declaration of interests
-
At the start of each meeting, directors and attendees must declare any personal, financial, or other interest related to items on the agenda.
-
If a new conflict arises during the discussion, it must be declared as soon as it becomes apparent.
-
All declarations will be noted in the meeting minutes.
5. Managing conflicts
When a conflict is declared:
-
The person concerned must not take part in the discussion or decision on that matter.
-
The remaining directors will decide how to proceed in a way that protects the CIC’s integrity.
-
The decision and how the conflict was managed will be recorded in the minutes.
6. Ongoing review
This policy will be reviewed annually by the board to ensure it remains appropriate and transparent.
