An autumn leaf in warm natural light, used in a blog post about trauma-informed yoga

Sometimes the quiet periods are when the deepest groundwork is being laid. And today, we’re really glad to share a meaningful step forward in our journey.

A Small Grant, A Big Step Forward

We are delighted to announce that How We Heal: Trauma Recovery & Wellbeing CIC has received £600 to deliver trauma-informed yoga in a women's support setting. This funding represents belief — belief in our vision, our values, and an early but meaningful investment in community-based, trauma-aware wellbeing support..

Trauma-Informed Yoga for Domestic Abuse Survivors

People who have experienced domestic abuse often live with long-term impacts on their physical and emotional wellbeing. Traditional movement or wellbeing spaces can feel unsafe, overwhelming, or inaccessible.

Trauma-informed yoga is an approach that prioritises:

  • choice and autonomy

  • bodily safety and consent

  • gentle, adaptable movement

  • awareness of trauma responses

Sessions are designed to avoid force, instruction-heavy language, or performance. Instead, participants are supported to move - or rest - in ways that feel right for them. This approach recognises that healing is not linear, and that safety must come before progress.

Why This Moment Matters

How We Heal was created in response to real gaps — gaps in support for people living with trauma, burnout, and long-term stress; gaps in culturally sensitive, non-judgemental wellbeing spaces; and gaps in approaches that honour both professional practice and lived experience. Receiving this funding is a reminder that even slow progress is still progress. That rest, reflection, and rebuilding are not failures — they are part of the work.

How the Funding Will Be Used

The funding we’ve received will support the early stages of delivering trauma-informed yoga for domestic abuse survivors, including:

  • planning sessions specifically for women affected by domestic abuse

  • creating delivery practices that centre safety, dignity, and choice

  • delivering community-based provision

Why Trauma-Informed Support Matters

Domestic abuse is not only a personal experience - it's a public health and community wellbeing issue. Access to appropriate, trauma-aware support remains limited, particularly outside of crisis services.

At How We Heal CIC, we believe wellbeing support should not re-traumatise, pressure, or exclude. Trauma-informed yoga offers a gentle, non-verbal way for people to reconnect with their bodies in a setting that respects boundaries and lived experience. This funding supports our wider mission to reduce barriers to healing and to create spaces rooted in compassion, safety, and trust.

Gratitude and Next Steps

We are grateful for the support at this early stage of our work and recognising the importance of trauma-informed approaches for women affected by domestic abuse.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us — quietly and consistently — along the way.

This is just the beginning. We’re looking forward to sharing more updates soon as we continue to grow, heal, and build — together.

With gratitude,

How We Heal: Trauma Recovery & Wellbeing CIC
