If you are looking for trauma-informed yoga in Nottingham, a gentle therapeutic yoga and somatic movement class, or a safe space to reconnect with your body and nervous system, our new weekly women's class may be for you.
At How We Heal CIC, we provide trauma-informed yoga and body-led wellbeing support for women across Nottingham, Nottinghamshire and the East Midlands. Our approach recognises the profound impact that stress, trauma and difficult life experiences can have on both the mind and body.
We are delighted to be launching a donation-basis new weekly class for June and July 2026:
Therapeutic Yoga to Support the Nervous System
This women-only class combines trauma-informed yoga, somatic movement and breathwork to help support nervous system regulation, reduce stress and create opportunities for rest, connection and healing.
Why Choose Trauma-Informed Yoga in Nottingham?
Trauma-informed yoga is different from a traditional yoga class. Rather than focusing on performance, flexibility or achieving particular postures, trauma-informed yoga prioritises safety, choice, body awareness and self-compassion. Research increasingly shows that trauma is not only something we think about—it is something the body experiences and remembers. Many people living with the effects of trauma, anxiety, chronic stress or burnout find themselves stuck in patterns of tension, hypervigilance, overwhelm or exhaustion.
Trauma-informed yoga offers gentle practices that can help individuals reconnect with their bodies, develop greater awareness of their nervous system and build a sense of safety from within.
Supporting Nervous System Regulation
Our nervous system plays a vital role in how we experience the world.
When we feel safe and supported, we are better able to connect with others, think clearly and respond flexibly to life's challenges. However, prolonged stress, trauma and adverse experiences can leave the nervous system in a state of survival.
Many women attending our classes describe experiencing:
Anxiety and overwhelm
Difficulty switching off
Persistent stress
Fatigue and burnout
Feeling disconnected from their bodies
Challenges with relaxation and rest
Through gentle therapeutic yoga, somatic practices and breathwork, participants are invited to explore ways of supporting nervous system regulation and creating moments of calm within the body.
Trauma Recovery Support in Nottingham
How We Heal CIC is a Nottingham-based community organisation specialising in body-led trauma recovery and wellbeing. We provide trauma-informed support for women, including survivors of domestic abuse, women living with the effects of trauma, and those seeking a more compassionate approach to wellbeing.
Our work is rooted in the understanding that healing is not about fixing ourselves. It is about creating the conditions for safety, connection, resilience and self-understanding to emerge.
